When was the last time you asked someone for help? Chances are high that you don’t remember it. No worries:-), in this internet era, where you can find anything online , who will bother to go to ask someone for help.
However, there are certain situations where human interaction is a must. Personal Coaching is definitely one of the them. Imagine typing in Google about one of your personal problem let’s say how to improve your relationships. What will be results you will be seeing? Yes, there would be a list of resources – documents, videos, podcasts and so on trying to grab your attention.
So, lets say you selected a video and played it, do you think the person who made this video understands your exact problem. I don’t think so, the video provides a general solution to the problem. Such a video works for a problem such as how to solve a Rubik’s cube or how to bake a cake , as it will work for anyone who applies the method mentioned in the video.
But for personal coaching, it is important we have a two way interaction. There are mainly 3 reasons for this:
1. Each individual is unique, our problems are unique and so are the solutions to them. There should be customized solutions to the problems we face and only a personal coach can dedicate his or her time for individual attention. For this both client and coach need to have conversations.
2. Accountability . One of the main factors we need to achieve any goals is a accountability. To keep it simple, having an accountability partner, means that there is someone to check with you, your progress. This will keep you going as there is a natural tendency in humans to keep going when they have been followed by someone. This is why children still do things which is not easy for them when they know that their parents or teachers are observing them.
3. Feedback – Let’s you have problem and your personal coach has provided you a solution and you have started executing the solution. Now , there can be chances that your execution can go wrong. In this case, having a personal coach can be a great advantage as he can correct and provide you feedback to bring you back on track.
Let me conclude here with a famous African proverb, if you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far, go together.
